Out of the Pac
A six for six day at the plate with the picks last week improves the season mark to 45-15. Andrew Luck and Stanford travel to USC for the week's showcase matchup. But first our review of last Saturday's slate...
Thursday, October 20
Arizona 48 - UCLA 12 (pick: Arizona 24-21)
Look what happens when someone quits screaming in your ear..
Saturday, October 22
Oregon 45 - Colorado 2 (pick: Oregon 55-13)
Bryan Bennett and Kenjon Barner more - much, much, more - than Colorado could handle. Less than 15 minutes after Ralphie had been corralled, Oregon had done the same to Colorado. 29 first quarter points and 45 minutes of live scrimmage.
USC 31 - Notre Dame 17 (pick: USC 34-23)
Matt Barkley tossed three touchdowns and an 80-yard fumble recovery for a score powered the Trojans past the Irish. Notre Dame was at the USC one and about to tie the game when the snap got free and the ball rolled back to the USC 20. USC safety Jawanza Starling took it the rest of the way and -according to Barkley - the Irish gave up.
Oregon State 44 - Washington State 21 (pick: Oregon State 28-21)
Sean Mannion sparked the Beavs to a road win that could well pay dividends for Mike Riley's group down the road. It won't be immediate, this season is mostly shot. But the Benny's can build on this win next year and beyond. Not so much for the disappointing Cougars..
California 34 - Utah 10 (pick: California 27-13)
California quarterback Zach Maynard put together his first quality start for the Bears, throwing for 255 yards and a touchdown and getting a second score running the ball. Utah's offense could do nothing against the California defense, gaining 178 total yards - 13 big ones on the ground.
Stanford 65 - Washington 21 (pick: Stanford 48-31)
Reality bites the Huskies hard . while Washington had been showing some offensive spunk, other than Nebraska none of the opposition presented what could be considered a potent offensive threat to a suspect Husky defense. There are no suspicions remaining . Stanford carved them up and if things don't quickly change, so will Oregon and so will USC and just maybe so will Oregon State.

Colorado @ Arizona State
The Buffaloes very well could go winless in their first Pac-12 rodeo. ASU 45-10
California @ UCLA
Road warriors the Ted-Heads aren't - they will go at you hammer and tong at home, but on the road the Bears get beat and often get beaten badly. UCLA beating anybody "badly" seems a stretch right now and while Utah certainly isn't a conference heavyweight, California's win over the Utes showed signs of life on both sides of the ball. Another nail in what is already a pretty tightly sealed coffin for Bruin coach Rick Neuheisal. Cal 34-23
Oregon State @ Utah
Utah's offense isn't going to put a lot of points on the board, so the question really is how effective will Sean Mannion and the Beavs be against a decent Utah defense. Effective enough - Oregon State 24-18
Arizona @ Washington
Dangerous game for the Huskies - still licking their wounds from the Stanford shellacking and with Oregon up next it might be tempting to let one's mind wander past the 2-5 Wildcats. A suddenly much more dangerous 2-5 Arizona team. Wildcat quarterback Nick Foles takes up where Andrew Luck left off and torches the Huskies 35-21.
Washington State @ Oregon
Nothing in sports should ever be taken for granted - but Washington State is completely overmatched in this game. Offense, defense, special teams . The Cougars might hope Oregon is looking past them to the Huskies and then Stanford, but he next time I see a Chip Kelly team overlook an opponent will be the first time I see a Chip Kelly team overlook an opponent. With or without Darron and/or LaMichael, Oregon 57-12.
Stanford @ USC
Lacking bowl eligibility, USC's is only able to crack the national headlines when they face a marquis opponent such as the 6th ranked Cardinal. ESPN GameDay will be on hand and an upset would re-establish USC in the national dialogue. But Andrew Luck and Stanford have a mix of big-game experience and methodical excellence to come away with a relatively easy 34-17 win in Los Angeles.
