Week Twelve
Saturday, November 21
Oregon 44 - Arizona 41 (2OT) (pick: Oregon 37-23)
Jeremiah Masoli's game tying drive was one for the generations as the Ducks ended the Rose Bowl hopes for the Wildcats on their home field. A fourth down completion to Jeffrey Maehl kept the Oregon offense on the field, then Masoli connected with TE Ed Dickson for the touchdown to send the game into overtime. But not before Nate Costa saved Oregon's conference title hopes by fielding the short hop on the point after attempt snap cleanly, then deftly placing the football for Morgan Flint's kick. Masoli, Maehl, Dickson, Costa, James. clutch performances across the board in a game that was as entertaining as any in college football this season.
California 34 - Stanford 28 (pick: Stanford 48-13)
A major coup by the Ted-Heads. Stanford had momentum, the home field advantage and seemingly a firm grip on "The Axe" for another season. California's 3-4 defense was able to swarm to the ball and limit the Cardinal offensive attack to roughly half what they had put on the board against Oregon and USC. Running back Shane Vareen's three touchdowns and career high 193 yards rushing filling in for the injured Jahvid Best was more than the Cardinal could handle.
UCLA 23 - Arizona State 13 (pick: UCLA 13-10)
It will be a long off-season for ASU head coach Dennis Erickson. Back to back losing seasons in Tempe and not much to make one think next year will be much better. At least the golf is good.
Oregon State 42 - Washington State 10 (pick: Oregon State 45-10)
The Cougars can only be happy there is only one game left on their schedule.
Week Thirteen
Saturday, November 28
Arizona at Arizona State
Can the Sun Devils take advantage of any emotional letdown after Arizona was knocked out of the Rose Bowl race in two overtimes by Oregon? No. Wildcats 34-10
Washington State at Washington
Tickets still available. Huskies 34-13
Notre Dame at Stanford
Timing is everything and the Domers couldn't have timed it worse, coming in to face the Cardinal a week after Stanford fell to their cross-bay rival. Head coach Jim Harbaugh is wound pretty tightly and he will certainly have his team emotionally charged to a fever pitch for this one. It won't be pretty, Stanford 48-17.
UCLA at USC
Pete Carroll and the Trojans have had an extra week to get healthy and to get ready for the Bruins. Sorry Rick, there is still only one football team in LA and it isn't in Westwood. USC 38-17.
