Tajuan Porter makes his last regular season McArthur Court appearance

Ducks Clip Cougs 74-66

LeKendric Longmire's 17 pints and 10 rebounds fulfilled a pregame promise he made to Tajuan Porter that he would post a double-double and lead the Oregon Ducks to a 74-66 win over the Washington State Cougars in the final Pac-10 conference game scheduled for McArthur Court and the last home game for the senior guard.

Three other players - including Porter with 12 - struck for double digits in the scoring column as Oregon pulled away from a two point halftime lead to claim a sweep of the regular season series with the Cougars. With the win the Ducks avoided a second straight last place conference finish, relegating Washington State into the cellar for the seventh time in the past 12 seasons. Although tied with Stanford at 7-11 in the conference standings a sweep of the Ducks by the Cardinal means these same two teams will meet in the play-in game of the Pac-10 Conference tournament next Wednesday in Los Angeles.

The Ducks led nearly wire-to-wire, falling behind by two midway through the opening half, then again by a point a minute later. Porter and E.J. Singler (15 pts.) combined for four straight three point plays - the last by Singler of the "and-one" variety to push Oregon's lead quickly to nine.

Porter and Michael Dunigan each hit short jumpers to extend the lead to double digits then another Porter trey gave the Ducks a 15 point cushion.

Huskies Hammer Ducks

Quincy Pondexter's 34 points led the Washington Huskies to an 86-72 win over the Oregon Ducks Thursday evening at McArthur Court.

The Ducks were paced by guard Tajuan Porter's 18 points and center Michael Dunigan's 16 points but Oregon had no answer for the Husky forward who hit 14 of 18 from the floor, many of which were rim-rattling slam dunks.

The honorary captains - current Portland TrailBlazer Brandon Roy representing Washington and legendary coach Dick Harter of Kamikaze Kids fame - had barely settled into their seats after the pre-game accolades before the Huskies bolted to a quick six point lead.

Although Oregon would narrow the margin to one point following a Jeremy Jacobs tip-in, the Huskies extended their lead to seven points on two occasions before Porter's trey tied the game at 19.

For the last ten minutes of the opening half, the Ducks were able to maintain a narrow margin thanks to the inside play of Dunigan and the outside shooting of Porter.

But every time it seemed that Oregon was poised to expand their lead, the Huskies found Pondexter behind the defense for an easy slam or an open jumper and at the break, Washington was within a point of the Ducks, 40-39

Washington took control of the contest early in the second half, building a 10 point lead on a Pondexter jumper four minutes in.

Oregon hit for an even 50% in the first 20 minutes, but in the second stanza they were able to only manage to connect on 11-40 for a 27.5% shooting percentage.

Huskies Gain Split
Rick Morgan

A dozen Oregon runners left on base led to a 5-3 loss to the Washington Huskies Wednesday afternoon at PK Park.

The Ducks pounded out 11 hits against six different Washington pitchers but couldn't bunch them together when they had opportunities to push runners across the plate.

Oregon's Madison Boer (0-1) gave up eight hits and four runs to get the loss, giving the Ducks a split in their home opening series with the Huskies.

Second baseman Danny Pulfer's early season hot bat continued, the number five hitter went 3 for 4 on the day to extend a four game hitting streak.

The Huskies scored a run in the second and two more in the third before Oregon cracked the goose egg with a pair in the bottom of the third.

Alex Keudell picked up his second victory Tuesday afternoon at PK Park

Ducks Deck Dawgs 6-2

A four run first inning sent Oregon on its way to a 6-2 victory over the Washington Huskies in the 2010 home opener Tuesday evening at PK Park.

Alex Keudell picked up his second win of the young season, scattering six hits while striking out six and yielding three walks.

The Ducks got off to a quick start in their first appearance at newly completed PK Park. Lead off hitter KC Serna banged a clean single into left to get things started. Second baseman Danny Pulfer followed with a perfectly executed bunt for a base hit, moving Serna into scoring position.

Jack Marder's sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base then designated hitter Nick Wagner laced a single to left, scoring both Serna and Pulfer. Another bunt single by freshman third baseman J.J. Altobelli advanced Wagner to second then a single to left by catcher Eddy Rodriguez loaded the bases.

Andrew Mendenhall drew a walk to force in Wagner and with the bases still loaded, first baseman Shawn Peterson's single up the middle scored the innings fourth run. More damage was averted when Washington pitcher Ben Guidos coaxed Oregon centerfielder Jett Hart into a double play to end the inning.

Given the early cushion, Keudell cruised through the second and third innings striking out the last batter to end both innings.

Washington miscues helped Oregon get another run in the third. Back to back errors put runners on second and third for the Ducks with one out. Peterson's sacrifice fly to left plated Rodriguez for his second RBI to push Oregon's lead to 5-0.
