Aaron Jones legs out a first inning base hit in Oregon's 6-0 win over Seattle at PK Park Friday evening
|
Keudell Sets Season Mark Rick Morgan
Alex Keudell scattered five hits, walked one and struck out five to lead Oregon to a 6-0 win over the Seattle RedHawks Friday evening at PK Park. It was the senior righthander's ninth consecutive win and his tenth of the season - a program best - and the 22nd victory of his career to tie for top honors in that category as well.
The Ducks got Keudell a pair of runs early. Aaron Payne and Aaron Jones singled back-to-back with Payne advancing to third thanks to a throwing error. Ryon Healy walked to load the bases.
Payne scored when Brett Thomas bounced into a double play with Jones moving to third. Kyle Garlick's ground rule double into the right field bullpen scored Jones but that was all the damage the Ducks could do.

Moore Home Cooking Send Ducks Into Championship Round Rick Morgan
Oregon (41-15) again used the big inning to advance to the championship round of the NCAA Regional with a 6-4 win over BYU (44-14) Friday at Howe Field.
The 11th seeded Ducks exploded for 6 runs in their first at bat against Portland State in the tournament's opening round and it was a five spot - this time in the third frame - that ultimately was the deciding factor against the Cougars.
Oregon wasted Samantha Pappas' double in the first inning and Jessica Moore grounded into a double play to ruin the second.

Ducks Pound Vikings in NCAA Regional Opener Rick Morgan
Six first inning runs were more than enough for the Oregon Ducks to advance in the winner's bracket of the NCAA Regional with a 7-3 win over Portland State (27-24) Thursday evening at Howe Field.
Right hander Jessica Moore - Oregon's ace - scattered six hits, struck out seven and walked only one to pick up her 28th win of the season sending the Ducks into an 11:00 am Friday match-up with Brigham Young.
The Cougars (44-13) defeated Mississippi State (33-23) 4-3 in nine innings in the opening game of the tournament.
11th seeded Oregon (40-15) jumped all over PSU starting pitcher Anna Bertrand, knocking her out of the circle in the first inning. Raya Johnson relieved and held the Oregon offense mostly in check the rest of the way but the damage was done.

Good as Gold, Ducks Sweep Trojans Rick Morgan
Jeff Gold scattered five hits and allowed a single earned run in six innings of work to pace the Oregon Ducks to a 6-3 win over USC Monday evening at PK Park. The victory completed the series sweep over the Trojans and lifted the Ducks (38-14, 19-8) to a 1.5 game lead over second place Arizona in the conference standings.
USC (22-24, 7-16) opened the scoring in the top of the second. Andres Rodriguez doubled into the left field corner with two out then scored when Oregon shortstop J.J. Altobelli allowed Garrett Hout's ground ball to slip between the wickets and into left field.

It's All Ducks Again at Pac-12 Meet Rick Morgan
Historic Hayward Field got just that much more historic Sunday when the men out pointed Arizona State for their sixth straight conference championship and the ladies demolished the competition to win their fourth consecutive conference crown.
The form charts had the Ducks as favorites on the ladies side but the Arizona State men were expected to end Oregon's string of titles.
The form charts lie.
1-2-3 sweeps in the 800m and the 200m events launched the women toward 200.5 points, with only Stanford within 100 points of the Ducks with 123.5. Arizona was third with 94.5.

Oregon Outlasts USC 4-2 Don Smalley
With some pitchers, if you don't get to them early, you may never get to them.
Just ask USC.
The Trojans stranded five base runners in the first two innings, scoring just one run off of Oregon starter Jake Reed. After that, the freshman hurler settled down and mowed USC down as if it were grass and the Ducks claimed a 4-2 win and clinched their seventh conference series win of the season.
Reed threw seven innings, allowing just two runs on five hits and four strikeouts to earn his sixth win off the season. At one point, the right-hander retired 11 straight before Alex Sherrod singled to right.

Ducks Upend USC 4-3 Rick Morgan
Without his best stuff, Alex Keudell picked up his eighth consecutive win in Oregon's 4-3 victory over USC at PK Park Saturday afternoon. The Ducks improved their season mark to 36-14 overall and 17-8 in conference. USC fell to 22-22 and 7-14.
"I thought it was one of my worst starts of the year," said Keudell. "I just wanted to give my team an opportunity to win and luckily we scored four runs and that was that."
Limited to a designated hitter role as he recovered from an ankle sprain Aaron Jones returned to the defensive line-up for the first time in nearly a month. The added duties did nothing to cool his hot bat, crushing a hanging change up into the left field bullpen to give Oregon a 1-0 lead in the third inning.

Navy Sinks Oregon's NCAA Hopes In Overtime Rick Morgan
Oregon fell to Navy 10-9 in overtime Saturday at Pape Field in the NCAA tournament play-in game, ending the Ducks' remarkable season. Oregon finished the season 14-5 overall, posted a perfect 7-0 conference record and won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament.
The Middies wasted no time asserting their size and physical style of play, jumping to a 4-0 during the games' first 10 minutes.
Oregon broke the ice on Jess Drummond's unassisted tally at 15:13 and in quick succession Hayley Milner and Nikki Puszcz found the back of the net on Oregon's next two offensive attacks. Drummond's second goal on a free position shot knotted the match at four with 9:20 left in the opening half.
